Baby Food Anxiety

Can I be completely honest with you all?

Over this past month, I have been struggling because Chaseton has been refusing to eat solid foods. šŸ˜•

Before I get to that though, let me take you guys back to a month ago when our baby food journey began. Some of you may have seen the vlog that I posted about Chaseton's first food experience with baby oatmeal, and it went so well! I thought we were off to such a great start. Chase had just made 6-months-old and gave all the signs of a baby ready to eat solid foods. You can actually check out the video here if you haven't seen it... šŸ‘‡šŸ½

But, as great as this moment was for Daddy and I, unfortunately that excitement dissipated soon after. A week later, Chase did not like that particular food anymore. I mean...he did not like it one bit. I fed it to him just like the first few times and he gagged so much! I just could not force him to eat it, so I just stopped. I'm not sure what it was that turned him away from it. I prepared it the same. I followed the instructions and the pediatrician's recommendations. It's almost like he just started out so excited that he could eat solid foods then realized afterward that the taste wasn't exactly his favorite. So, what did we do? Daddy and I switched it up and said let's go for some other common first baby foods.

We decided to try...

  • mashed bananas = spit it out

  • mashed avocado = didn't care for it

  • purĆ©ed apple sauce = he threw it up

  • purĆ©ed sweet potato = he gags when he taste it

  • purĆ©ed regular potato = he plays with it but doesn't really eat it

  • purĆ©ed carrots = didn't like the taste

I think you guys get where I'm going here. I think you can also imagine my frustration after trying all of these foods and being unsuccessful. After all of these attempts, we came to the conclusion that not all babies jump right into eating baby foods. Mine is one of them.

I can say that on the bright side my son does like meat! lol One day my hubby decided while we were eating spaghetti to let my son try a meatball and he was tearing that thing up! lol He didn't necessarily eat the meatball but it was the first time we saw him eat some food and love it. Check it out. šŸ‘‡šŸ½

There was another time that I was holding Chase in my arms while snacking on some vegan ham and y'all should've seen how fast this boy took that meat out my hand and started to snack on it! I was so caught off guard that all I could do was watch him eat the food and tear it up. lol Again, I didn't let him eat to much of it because I wanted to be cautious that he didn't choke, but it felt so good seeing him like to eat something!

So, where does this leave us? I think I have a baby carnivore on my hands! lol But in all seriousness, I'm trying to remain hopeful. I have a very strong faith in God that Chase will come around to the baby foods one day. I am hopeful that his taste buds will develop and that he'll begin to crave more foods. I am hopeful that as we keep practicing with baby foods that Chase will find something he likes and we can take it from there.

But for now, I'm open to any mom advice that you all have when it comes to this! Please feel free to let me know your experience with baby foods by commenting below OR follow my IG - @moniefresh - and feel free to message me. I could really use the support with this and hopefully in the near future I'll be writing another blog about how it all changed!

Until then, thanks for letting me be vulnerable with you all. Pray for us, ya'll!
