Baby Eczema Relief!

When Chaseton was around 2 months old Dwayne and I noticed something happening to his skin. It started to transition from a smooth, soft, fairly medium brown tone to his face developing these red patches.
These irritable skin patches made our son scratch himself all day and night (making it so hard for him to sleep) and after about a week of it not going away we started to worry a bit. We questioned for a while if it was an allergic reaction to the soap we
bathed him with, if it was the lotion that we used on his skin, or if it was eczema forming but at that time we really couldn't tell. All we knew is that there was something wrong and we needed to find out what it was. So, as his parents we had to do what we had to do to get things taken care of.
Dwayne suggested that we should switch his bath soaps, lotions, and detergent - pretty much anything that comes in contact with his skin. We even thought about the things he would lay on around the house and decided to cover any possible surface he played on with an 100% cotton blanket so that his skin wouldn't continue to break out. I also began doing my own online research, staying up night and day looking up skin rashes, dark spots on the face, bleeding from rashes - everything you can think of. I should've been careful because the internet will tell you all types of things and it honestly just made me more anxious. I went from thinking its just a possible rash to possibly something more life threatening. (Fair warning mamas - be careful what you research on the internet. Just call your doctor first!)
After failing to find a solution to our sons irritable skin we finally set up an appointment to visit the pediatrician. She took one look at what was happening and said, "yeah, he's certainly dealing with eczema." (We definitely should've called her first! lol). Since neither of us had eczema before our doctor had to explain to us that it is defined as a medical condition in which patches of skin become rough and inflamed, with blisters that cause itching and bleeding, sometimes resulting from a reaction to irritation. As she continued to explain this information she also recommended either purchasing some over the counter eczema lotion or she'd prescribe a medicine to cure his eczema. (We love our doctor, however, we are not big fans of modern medicine or using over the counter products without extensive research). Instead we decided to become eczema experts of our own and look up non-toxic baby eczema relief products. (We really wanted a product that would be safe on our baby's skin without all the harmful chemicals.)
Sure enough, after a few clicks around the web we found a bunch of blogs that described many types of non-toxic eczema relief remedies for babies. (I've linked a few I found in case your in need!)

Many of these brands we've never heard of before and with so many choices we just continued to look around and eventually found three products that were vegan, had great reviews, and available to order right away. Those products were Tubby Todd's All Over Ointment, Puremedy Baby Vegan Eczema Relief, and Bamboo Bubby (Scratch Sleeves.)
Tubby Todd All Over Ointment
This is a rich, creamy balm that is fragrance free and made from plant based products. It does rub on very thick when you first use it but once it spreads on the skin it last for a while! We use it all over our sons body, night and day, and we love it so much! We even purchased the body wash and everyday lotion because it is THE BOMB! Personally, we use this in combination with the Puremedy Baby Vegan Eczema Relief. However, even on its own it works wonders! 🙌🏽
Puremedy Baby Vegan Eczema Relief
This gentle vegan formula is an ointment that temporarily relieves symptoms associated with baby eczema. I love it because this one spreads on extremely smooth and leaves the skin very moisturized. After using it, the skin has a shine to it that makes your baby look oh so smooth and irresistible!
Again, we use this in combination with the Tubby Todd All Over Ointment. We use this directly after and our son hasn't had any reactions when combining the two products. All we've noticed is much clearer skin and less scratching which is a win for all of us! ☺️
Bamboo Bubby (Scratch Sleeves)
Sometimes it doesn't matter how much ointment you use, you still want to protect your baby from those nails scratching their face and from rubbing on irritable parts of skin. As an added measure, we purchased these sleeves for our baby to wear on top of his onesies. This one is a game changer!! We love that when its play time we can take his hands out and when it's time for him to rest (or once he starts scratching) we can keep his hands safe. The sleeves are made from a bamboo, organic cotton,
elastane, and silky smooth silk fabric blend that is super-soft and highly breathable, providing the ultimate comfort for your child. It really has helped him so much and we've stocked up multiples of these since!
Overall, our sons skin has healed so much to the point where we haven't had any crazy eczema episodes in SO long! 🙌🏽 (Take another look at the photos to see how clear his skin is now!) From time to time, his eczema still flares up but with these products we've been able to defend him against the worst of flare ups. I really recommend if your child has eczema to give these a try and let me know if it works for you.
I hope that this encourages any of you who are looking for eczema relief for your little one. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions or concerns about anything I've mentioned today and as always, thanks for reading!
